Nationalmuseet Mediation of history, crowdsourcing, and enhanced on-site experience for The National Museum of Denmark. Services: UI Design, UX Design Working at Socialsquare, we worked on projects for Nationalmuseet in different occasions. I acted as UX/UI Designer and was in charge of the user involvement in both occasions. Firstly, we worked on a project called Collections Online, where all of the digitized content from the museum was set to be available online. When we started, the online catalog of old images and items possessed by the museum didn’t have a user interface that matched the corporate visual identity of the museum. The client wished for the new user interface to emphasize on displaying the main image. Furthermore, the client wanted new functionalities in the solution that allowed crowdsourcing of the content. The user experience work was therefore mainly conducted in relation to the implementation of geolocation and word tagging of the collection. The solution is integrated with Google Maps including Streetview to help the users being more precise when tagging a geolocation and Google’s photo recognition engine for smarter categorizing and better search results. Concept Mockups for Collections Online Working with Collections Online, we attended Crowdsource4DK, a crowdsourcing event where people volunteer to help to tag, check and report on different digital products and databases. It was the first time in history Nationalmuseet opened up for the ordinary population to add and alter their database records. During the event, I observed how the users interacted with the solution and thereby got a chance to note down and ask questions about their behavior. Based on the findings from the event, we changed the general user interface to be more informative in the flow of tagging pictures as well as changing the visual within the geolocation tagging functionality to support a more logical approach. Support Platform Secondly, we worked on a support platform for the same museum. The platform was set to launch in relation to a TV series called “Historien om Danmark” on Danish Television. Basically, it’s a platform where visitors in the museum can ask questions about the exhibition via a touchscreen and get answers directly from the museum staff. The solution was made as a minimal viable product to make a proof of concept but is set to expand from only being an on-site feature to being an online feature you can access from everywhere anytime.
